Have you heard of Surprise Ride Activity Boxes? I got introduced to it through my friend, Jessica from The Mom Creative, back in June and promptly signed Silas up for a free trial box.
What I didn’t expect was that all three of our kids were going to fall in love with these boxes. We ended up getting a subscription and it’s brought hours of fun and excitement to our home.
Okay, full honesty here: it’s also brought some arguing. You see, the kids are all so excited about seeing what the activities are and what the theme is for the month and — most importantly — what the snack is that sometimes fights will break out over the box. {Yes, I didn’t birth perfect angels over here, in case you were wondering! ;)}
I’ve learned I have to make rules for when a box comes over who gets to open it and what chores have to be done in order to get to actually do the activities in the box. (Hey, if it motivates them to do their chores more quickly, I’m all about that! :))
My kids have all expressed, “I LOVE Surprise Ride!” And it’s always an exciting day when a new box arrives.
Surprise Ride is a monthly subscription box that offers pre-planned educational activities for kids ages 6-11. They work with experts to curate a monthly adventure in a box.
I was hesitant to believe that the box would really be good for ages 6-11, but I’m here to tell you that all three of my kids think these boxes are super cool (they are 7, 9, and 11). I’m pretty impressed by that fact alone as it’s rare that all three kids will really, really love the same thing.
Each month, the box theme is a surprise and centers around something fun and educational like art, geography, outer space, food, and more!
For instance, the boxes shown in the pictures in this post are about Bees and Mars. Each month, your child(ren) will receive all the supplies for two activities/crafts/experiments, a book, a snack, fun facts, and other extras.
I love that they send a book each time. The book is usually at a Level 3 reading level — which is below the girls’ level, but is perfect for Silas.
My kids love that they send a snack in each box. And the snack is always in line with the theme of the box. For instance, for the Bees box, they sent honey sticks and a pack of Honey Heroes Snack. For the Mars themed box, they sent a bag of Astronaut snacks.
Each box is very different and is designed to encourage kids to get off screens and have fun and educational activities to do at home.
The girls are able to do the activities without any supervision from me. Silas usually needs a little supervision.
I especially love that they send you absolutely everything you need to complete the activities (except maybe water or something!) and they include an apron for mess-free fun!
Get a FREE Activity Box from Surprise Ride ($24 value!!)
Surprise Ride is offering a FREE Activity Box to my readers when you sign up through this link. You’ll just pay $5.95 for shipping.
If you decide to continue with the subscription, it's $24.95/month. Or, you can easily cancel by sending an email to their customer service. (We tried a free trial last year and cancelled without any issues. I just wanted to make sure that it would work without any hiccups.)
Note: This might make a great Christmas gift idea!! If you’re on a tight budget, you could just order the free box and wrap that up for your kids for Christmas.
And if you have grandparents who are asking for ideas, definitely pass this subscription box idea on to them. It makes for such a fun and educational gift — that’s also mostly clutter-free and provides hours of enjoyment and excitement all year long.
