I accidentally spent $167 more on groceries this week than I planned!!

I accidentally spent $167 more on groceries this week than I had planned on!!! Here’s what happened…

I went to place my Kroger delivery order yesterday. When I went to checkout, they offered me some great deals that were flash sales (you’ll usually get offered these if you choose to have your order delivered from the Kroger delivery truck).

One of those deals was on a roast. It said it was $15.99. That’s quite a bit more than I usually spend on meat for one meal, but I decided to splurge since I had the money in the budget.

I went to checkout and it said my total was $143 for all my groceries. I was excited because I’d gotten a lot of high quality meat and other things and was still under my $150 weekly budget!

But then my groceries got delivered this morning and instead of my total being around $143 (it usually varies a tiny bit depending upon whether they have everything in stock or need to substitute something), it was $315!!

What?!?

I went to look at my groceries and discovered that instead of the roast being $15.99 total, it was $15.99 a POUND and they had given me 10 1/2 pound roast!!

So instead of the roast being $15.99 like I thought, it was $167!!!!

I decided to live chat with a Kroger representative to ask if anything could be done since I really didn’t want to pay $167 for one roast.

They asked me multiple questions and asked me to send a screenshot of my original total that they’d sent via email after I placed my delivery order.

I expected maybe they’d give me some sort of refund.

Well, guess what??

After they asked me a series of questions and had me submit the screenshot, they refunded me the ENTIRE amount!

Yes, all $167 of it!! And I get to keep the roast!!!!

This is just a reminder that it never hurts to ask. Be kind. Be polite. Don’t expect or demand. But do be firm and confident and ask if you got overcharged or if something is not right with an order.

You never know what might happen — you just might get a $167 roast completely free. (I feel weird even eating such an expensive item, but I’m going to try to make it last for as many meals as possible!)

P.S. I just saw “roast” on the flash sale advertisement. After it arrived, I discovered it was a ribeye roast. I didn’t even know what this was (yes, can you tell I typically only buy less expensive cuts of meat?) but apparently it’s really amazing meat and you can cut it into steaks and make it go really far. Now I just have to get brave enough to figure out how to cook a type of roast I never have before! I’ve heard it’s not the kind you just plop into the crockpot to bake like I usually do with roasts!!
