What I Wore This Week (Frugal Fashion)

This summer, I'm taking the Get Your Pretty On Summer Style Challenge. So far, I'm loving this challenge and can't believe how much it's encouraging me to get dressed in a cute outfit every day, try some new outfit pairings, and just enjoy ...

What I Wore This Week (Frugal Fashion)

This summer, I'm taking the Get Your Pretty On Summer Style Challenge.

So far, I'm loving this challenge and can't believe how much it's encouraging me to get dressed in a cute outfit every day, try some new outfit pairings, and just enjoy putting together looks. Plus, I LOVE the Facebook Group where women share their own variation of each day's outfit.

I thought it would be fun to share a round-up of my outfits from this past week in hopes that it might inspire you with ideas and or encourage you to take a little time to mix and match items you already have to create some cute outfits!

(Want to see more outfits? See last week's What I Wore post.)

Here’s what I wore this past week:

I wore a dress for the third time in two weeks!!! I think that dresses are growing on me, thanks to this GYPO Style Challenge and your encouragement on my daily outfit of the day posts.

Dress: Amazon
Jewelry: Kohl's Clearance Rack
Shoes: Zulily Sale

I really, really like this dress. It’s not practical for every day wear, but it was perfect for Sunday morning!

Okay, a big thing I’ve discovered from taking pictures every day of my outfits is that I have a bad habit of pairing dressy tops with casual bottoms. And I don’t like how it looks.

But I didn’t realize this until I started taking pictures of my outfits! Which is one of the many reasons this has been such a good experiment for me to do!

Shirt: Amazon
Shorts: Stitch Fix
Shoes: Amazon
Necklace: Kohl's Clearance Rack

I love this outfit! Jesse and I went on a date on Tuesday evening and went to this fun place called Homestead Manor, where he took this picture of me.

Shirt: Amazon — no longer available
Jeans: Stitch Fix
Jewelry: Kohl's Clearance Rack
Shoes: Zulily Sale

I think I really like this outfit, too! It was supposed to be a blue and white striped shirt for the GYPO Style Challenge, but I don’t have one, so I subbed this tee.

And I got crazy brave and wore YELLOW shoes, as per the encouragement of Alison who put together the GYPO Style Challenge! I don’t even know when the last time is that I’ve worn yellow!!! And I shocked myself by actually liking them!

Shirt: Cents of Style
Shorts: Amazon
Shoes: Amazon
Jewelry: Stitch Fix (earrings) Bracelet (Amazon)

You all told me I needed to get some white shorts, so I finally got some! See? I’m learning… slowly but surely!

The outfit for this day was supposed to be a grey shirt + bright colored shorts. I was going to be inside most of the day and it was rainy for half the day, so here was my version of the day’s outfit.

I thought it looked okay hanging in my closet, but once I saw this picture I was like, “Really?? That’s not how I thought it looked at all!!” And I decided that this wins my Worst Outfit of the Week award. Facebook agreed with that. 😉

Sometimes, you just need to laugh when you put together an outfit that you and Facebook realize is just a bad, bad choice.

Shirt: Cents of Style
Jeans: thredUP
Shoes: Amazon — oh and they are bright white, they just look grey because of the photo shadows
Jewelry: Kohl's Clearance Rack & Amazon

Also, in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve learned that I wear blue a LOT. I need to expand my wardrobe colors. 🙂

My 25 Favorite Things to Buy at Dollar Tree

Last week, I shared a post on My 25 Favorite Things to Buy at ALDI and so many of you loved it that I thought I’d do a similar post on my favorite things to buy at Dollar Tree.

Here’s the thing about Dollar Tree, while everything in the store is truly only $1, not everything in the store is worth $1. Some things are GREAT deals. Some things are cheaply made and/or can be found easily for less than a dollar elsewhere. So when you shop there, remember this: just because it’s a store with great deals, doesn’t mean that everything in the store is a great deal.

For those of you who might not shop at Dollar Tree, I thought it would be fun for me to share some of my favorite things to buy at Dollar Tree.

1. Tissue paper

2. Wrapping paper and bows

3. Plastic serving trays and bowls (great for entertaining!)

4. Greeting cards (2 for $1!)

5. Plastic table cloths, silverware, cups, plates, napkins (these are great for parties and entertaining!)

6. Glow Sticks

7. Make-up (I usually only buy only brands I am familiar with, but I’ve had great success with buying lipstick and lipgloss from Dollar Tree.)

8. Pregnancy tests (yes, just $1 for real! And they work!)

9. Photo Frames

10. Beach Toys — great for when you are on vacation and forgot to bring beach toys or don’t want to bring them along with you!

11. Puzzles = super cheap entertainment for kids! And you don’t have to worry if they lose pieces! 😉

12. Party Supplies

13. Cheap Toys — we buy stock up on these for road trips or chore incentives. I will wrap them up and the kids get to open them and they love it! 🙂 {And yes, your kids might not be like mine and they might think that’s weird!}

14. Books — Most of these will be ones I’m not interested in, but you can usually find a few fantastic gems in the middle of all the junky titles! 🙂

15. Socks — They aren’t the highest quality, but they have two-packs for $1 for kids that we’ve purchased and had great experience with.

16. Waste Baskets

17. Flip Flops

18. Organizational Supplies

19. Hair Items

20. Spices & Seasonings

21. Plastic Wrap & Foil

22. Plastic Bags & Freezer Bags

23. Glassware & Mugs

24. Brooms

25. Sunglasses — yes, these are cheap, but they work great in a pinch!

Dollar Tree Shoppers: Do you agree with my list? Anything you would add or take off? I'd love to hear!
