Day 9: $100 Savings Challenge (Guess what I found??)

It’s Day 9 of the $100 Savings Challenge and I am SO excited to tell you what I found!! I had some extra time to go through a folder I had in my email where I had stashed a few hundred personal/family emails that I thought I might want to refer to later.

I had completely forgotten what else I had stashed in that folder!!

Today, we saved by…

-Choosing to go to the TN Aquarium instead of the Atlanta Aquarium. We priced it out and realized that while the Atlanta one might be a little cooler, there would likely be a lot fewer people, we could bring our stroller and drinks in, AND we’d save over $200!!

-I ended up taking Kierstyn and Micah to the aquarium while Jesse, Silas, and David went and did some other things. They LOVED the aquarium

-Afterwards, the guys met up with us and we played in the water outside the aquarium for an hour. It was the best free fun!!

And now, onto the $100 Savings Challenge! If you haven’t signed up for the $100 Savings Challenge, be sure follow the directions to sign up (there are prizes!!):

Day 9 Challenge:

Use Gift Cards or Rewards: Check your wallet or apps for unused gift cards, points, or rewards. Apply them. (Found money: $5–$20)

When I went through my inbox (because I had some extra time while on vacation!), guess what I discovered? There was a $100 Chili’s gift card + a $100 Hotels.com gift card + 4 Krispy Kreme coupons for a free dozen doughnuts. All of these were things I had gotten two years ago and stashed in that folder and them completely forgotten about!!!

I decided I’m only going to count $50 of that toward this week, though, because we are going to use the Chili’s gift card to pay for our usual one night of getting takeout per week this week.

So, with that added to my total, we are at $95.25 found/saved so far with the challenge. We are in the home-stretch and we are almost to $100! I didn’t know if I was going to make it, so I’m THRILLED that I think I’m going to hit $100!!

How much have you saved/found so far as part of the challenge?

My Honest Experience With Nourish

Looking for a free dietitian online or online nutritionist consultation covered by insurance? I have been LOVING my Nourish dietitian and this is my completely honest review! Truly — it’s been life-changing for me!

My Completely Honest (+ Very Vulnerable) Nourish Dietitian Review

Are you wanting to make healthy changes in your diet but don’t know where to start? Struggling to hit your health goals or feeling overwhelmed by trying to stay on track?

Two months ago, I made a decision that I honestly didn’t expect to have such a big impact. I signed up to meet with a Nourish dietitian.

Not because I had a big health goal or some drastic change in mind, but because I was feeling a little stuck. I had been working out more, trying to be mindful of what I was eating, and wanting to better support my body through this full season of life.

I figured it couldn’t hurt to get a little expert insight, especially since Nourish is fully covered by insurance under our plan.

Honestly, I expected to get a few helpful tips on calories and macros. I didn’t expect it to shift so much of how I view my body, my energy, my relationship with food, and even how I approach rest and recovery.

But it has. And I’m so grateful. Let me tell you more about my honest experience with Nourish…

What Is Nourish?

Nourish is a virtual platform that connects you with a registered dietitian — someone trained to help you with everything from emotional eating to hormone health to energy levels and gut issues — all from the comfort of your own home.

Instead of handing you a one-size-fits-all meal plan or strict list of foods to avoid, your Nourish online dietitian walks with you step-by-step. They listen to your goals. They help you build habits. They offer insight on how nutrition, sleep, stress, and movement work together. And they empower you to nourish your body well, without shame, restriction, or overwhelm.

This One Small Step Has Been Quietly Transforming My Health (and It’s Covered by Insurance!)

To be honest, I was hesitant at first. I wasn’t sure I needed an online nutritionist consultation. I wondered if my health goals were “big enough” or if it would be worth the time.

But I also knew I wanted to take better care of myself. I felt a little foggy some days. I wanted accountability and clarity, and deep down, I wondered if I was giving my body what it needed to thrive.

That first call with my Nourish dietitian? It blew me away.

She helped me understand how the stress and depletion of the last few years — pregnancies, nursing, fostering, adopting a child with disabilities, caregiving, running a business, and raising six kids — had left me running on fumes. She walked me through how under-eating and under-sleeping were actually slowing down my metabolism and affecting my mood and hormones.

She didn’t guilt me. She didn’t overwhelm me. She encouraged me and gave me clear, simple steps I could take that very week.

What I’m Learning from My Nourish Dietician

Every session has been eye-opening. Not because of some radical overhaul… but because of how freeing and healing it’s been to undo old beliefs.

My dietitian has helped me:

  • Identify and challenge long-held beliefs about food and weight.
  • Realize how often I’ve equated worth with a number on the scale.
  • Shift from restriction to nourishment.
  • Take baby steps toward what she calls “food freedom” — where food supports your life, not controls it.

It’s emotional work, too. But so, so worth it.

Making the Most of Your Free Dietitian Online

If you decide to sign up (which I highly recommend if you’re curious!), here are a few tips to make the most of your online nutritionist consultation:

  • Track your eating, movement, and sleep for a few days ahead of your first call (I used MyFitnessPal and my Oura ring).
  • Bring questions or struggles you want help with — even small things like “I snack all day and feel tired after lunch.”
  • Share your health history (I even brought my bloodwork to our second session!).
  • Be honest and open — this isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress.

How Much Does a Session Cost with a Nourish Dietitian?

If you’re wondering what a Nourish session might cost, here’s the exciting news: 94% of users pay $0 out of pocket when they use insurance!

That’s right! You have a very good chance of being able to meet with a free dietitian online — right from the comfort of your own home. How cool is that?!

I have been sharing about Nourish for the past 6 weeks or so, as I have been using it and benefiting from it, and I would say that number they give is quite accurate as the majority of my audience is also finding that Nourish is covered by their insurance, too.

That said, every insurance plan is a little different — some may have a small copay or coinsurance — but Nourish does everything they can to keep your costs low and offers a simple insurance coverage calculator to help you know what to expect ahead of time.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Most people pay nothing. Yes, really! The majority of users don’t pay anything out of pocket because Nourish is in-network with hundreds of insurance plans across all 50 states.
  • You can check your coverage easily. Nourish makes it super simple to verify your insurance and see if there may be any copays or fees.
  • No surprise bills. What your insurance says is what you’ll pay — no hidden costs or unexpected fees. All appointments are backed by the Nourish Guarantee to provide a no-surprise billing experience! Note: One of my followers was told that her insurance would cover Nourish and then that ended up not being the case. Nourish zeroed out her balance and didn’t charge her anything for the two sessions she had because of their Nourish Guarantee.
  • Paying out of pocket? If your insurance doesn’t cover sessions, the self-pay rate is $145 per session — and you’ll know that up front.

Why I Recommend It

If you’re:

  • Feeling stuck with your health goals
  • Battling low energy or brain fog
  • Walking through a tough postpartum season
  • Wanting to build a better relationship with food
  • Or simply needing some gentle accountability

I highly recommend checking out Nourish. This is one of the most grace-filled, personalized things I’ve done for myself in a long time.

Day 8: $100 Savings Challenge (I cancelled an auto-renewal to save $113!)

It’s Day 8 of the $100 Savings Challenge and I didn’t fully follow the directions today (I’ll share more below why that’s the case!), but I did cancel an auto-renewal and that’s going to guarantee we don’t accidentally spend $100 on an auto-renewal.

We’re in Atlanta for the baseball tournament through tomorrow. We are having a great time and the kids are doing so well overall (except for struggling to sleep for the first few nights, but otherwise doing well!).

Today, we saved by…

-Bringing our own snacks and drinks to the ball park (we have gone to the grocery store a few times to re-stock while here!) These Chocolate Peanut Butter Quest bars are my new fave! (Did you see this hot deal on Quest bars right now??)

-Using ice from the hotel ice machine instead of buying it (by the way, our Stanley cooler has been coming in clutch! We are loving it — and it doubles as a chair to sit on and a stool to stand on, too! And it’s on sale for $66 again!!)

-Enjoying lots of free fun — playing at the baseball park and at the hotel. The kids also got to watch Bluey on the hotel TV while eating snacks after a long day of playing and being outside and they were SO excited. I wish you could have heard them laughing… they think Bluey is hilarious!

And now, onto the $100 Savings Challenge! If you haven’t signed up for the $100 Savings Challenge, be sure follow the directions to sign up (there are prizes!!):

How To Participate in the $100 Savings Challenge

Day 8 Challenge:

Day 8 Challenge: Price Check Insurance, Phone Plan, or Internet Service: Call and see if you have the best rate possible and if there are any changes you can make to lower your monthly expenses. Or check online to compare rates. You might unlock savings that will pay off month after month! (Save: $5–$10+/month)

We recently re-ran our health insurance rates and chose a different plan. We are privately insured and have a high deductible with 100% coverage after we meet the deductible (we met ours already this year due to Kathrynne’s hospital stay at the start of the year + a few other medical things). We get our rates through Zander and really appreciate how they help us to get the best bang for our buck when it comes to health insurance. We always check plans once a year and look to see if there are any better options or rates.

So we didn’t need to price check our insurance. And because our phone plan and internet service are one of the most important parts of our business and we are really happy with what we have right now, I don’t want to change to something else and potentially mess up coverage (plus, my phone and our internet are a business expense), so we decided against trying to switch to something else.

One Quick Way We Guaranteed We’ll Not Pay $113

I figured out how to go in and turn off auto-renew for Craftsy — that way I don’t have to remember to cancel when it’s close to my year being up!

You just go into your account, click on membership, and then there’s a button to click to cancel auto-renew. It literally took me 30 seconds!

By the way, you can sign up for a completely FREE Craftsy account right now (we’ve never seen it free — this gives you access to over 1500 crafting classes!) and then go in and click to not auto-renew and you will get a year for free without having to worry about remembering to cancel!

I’m not going to count the Craftsy cancellation in the money saved, since I likely would have remembered to cancel that, so I’m going to say that we are still at $45.25 found/saved so far with the challenge. How much have you saved/found so far as part of the challenge?
