$0.99 Freezer Bags at Walgreens, Overcooked Banana Bread, & Tonight’s Crockpot Dinner!

I'm currently challenging myself to stick with a $70 grocery budget for our family of five. This includes almost all of our breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners + most household products (toiletries, laundry soap, etc.).

I found a bag of frozen bananas in the freezer yesterday that I had forgotten we had, so I whipped up a batch of our favorite Banana Bread. (By the way, here are 55 Ways to Use Up Ripe Bananas.)

The only problem was that I stuck it in the oven right before I went live for the Just Open the Door Bookclub… and kind of wasn’t thinking about the fact that I would need to take it out of the oven *during* the Facebook Live (I did the Facebook Live from the kitchen counter and the girls were upstairs and Jesse was gone at a game with Silas)! Whoops!

The bread was definitely over-cooked and more dry than usual, but it is still yummy and the kids are excited to have it for their lunches and for snacks this week!

I used the sausage that I got on sale and the potatoes and onions that I got marked down to make a crockpot dinner for tonight.

You can watch me make it live in the video above — and yes, I’m in my workout clothes with no makeup on! 😉 (We had multiple repair people coming over today — a plumber, a sheet-rocker, and a guy who is helping us finish off the workout room in the basement — and they were all getting here pretty early in the morning, so I wanted to get this thrown in the crockpot before they arrived!)

Tuesday Walgreens Shopping Trip — $3.29

I ran by Walgreens and picked up 3 boxes of freezer bags. These are just $0.99 per box with the in-ad coupon. (Just look in the weekly ad for the coupon — they’ll need to scan it for you to get this deal.) My total with tax was $3.29.

They also have sandwich bags and 20-count boxes of regular zippered bags and paper plates and aluminum foil — all just $0.99 with the in-ad coupon. There is a limit of 4 per trip.

I’m also planning to possibly run by ALDI or Kroger later today if I have time when I’m out picking up the kids/taking them to activities. I’ll share anything I buy then in my Thursday $70 Grocery Budget update.

I submitted my receipt to Checkout 51 for the marked down bananas I bought at Kroger yesterday and got $0.50 back!

If you are buying bananas this week, be sure to request your $0.50 rebate. I know it’s just a little bit of $$, but every little bit counts — especially when it literally takes you seconds to submit your receipt and claim your rebate!

My Grocery Totals For This Week So Far

Total spent so far this week: $32.49
Total left to spend: $37.51 (Stay tuned for updates over the next few days if I score any great deals!)

Cash back so far: $0.25 from Ibotta for submitting my receipt, $0.50 back from Checkout 51 for buying marked down bananas

Have you gotten any great deals this week or saved on groceries in any way? Tell us about it in the comments!
