Have you heard of Le Tote? It’s a clothing rental service that sends you boxes of clothes/accessories based on your size and according to your styles. You keep the clothes for as long as you’d like to keep them and wear them. Then, when you’re ready to return them, you mail them back and they’ll send you another box of clothes.
I’ve wanted to try it out for a long time, so when I saw that Groupon was offering a deal on 2 months of Le Tote, I jumped on it. I had fun trying out the service and wanted to write a completely honest review on my experience.
How LeTote Works
- Sign up for your first tote. (You can try it for free for 14 days when you sign up through my link here.) They offer three different plans: 3 clothing items + 2 accessories for $59/month, 4 clothing items for $69/month, or 5 clothing items + 3 accessories for $79/month.
- Fill out your style profile — this includes detailed questions on your sizing, colors you like, styles you like, and more. (It’s more thorough than Stitch Fix, in my opinion.)
- Add items you like from their extensive collections to “your closet” on their site so that they can pick from some of them for your tote.
- Wait for a day or two while they style your tote based upon your style profile.
- Once your tote is ready, you can go in and choose to swap out any of the items they chose for other items. This way, you can really customize the items in your tote to what suits you best.
- Receive your tote in the mail and wear the items for as long as you’d like.
- Once you are ready to return them, you just stick the items in the pre-paid bag and ship it back. (No need to wash or dry clean anything! You can also choose to purchase any of the items you’d like to keep.)
- As soon as they receive your bag, they’ll get another tote ready for you and you can repeat the process over again.
What I Liked About Le Tote
You get to customize your tote. You knew exactly what they were sending you because you got to see your tote ahead of time and swap out anything that wasn’t a good fit for you.
You don’t have to pay for dry cleaning. You just ship your items back — without washing or dry cleaning them!
You can try new styles. I tried a pair of jeans out that was in a style and color I’ve always wanted to try. I decided I didn’t like the style ultimately, but it was fun to try it out and wear them a few times so I could decide that.
You can put together an outfit for an upcoming event. If you have an upcoming event that you need to buy a new outfit for, you may be able to find great clothes for it from LeTote — and pay less than you’d pay to buy a completely new outfit.
They offer maternity selections. This might be one of the coolest options they offer! You can rent maternity clothes and then send them back as you progress through pregnancy to get larger sizes!
What I Didn’t Like About Le Tote
It is expensive! The cheapest plan is $59 per month! Yes, the clothes are high-quality, but that’s still a LOT to pay just to rent clothes.
Their styles were very trendy. I typically wear more classic styles and I prefer colors to neutrals. I found that they had a lot of items that were too trendy for me and a lot of items that were black or grey.
The clothes may have been worn by someone else. While the clothes were all in like-new condition, it still might bother you to know they’ve been worn by other people — especially if you’re not a consignment shopping!
I found it wasn’t as fun as Stitch Fix. One of the things I love about Stitch Fix is that I don’t have to shop, I don’t have to look through racks of clothes, I don’t have to make decisions. A box of clothes just shows up at my doorstep and I get to be surprised. Sometimes, they really miss the mark, but I still find it fun to be surprised. With Le Tote, I felt like it required more work and effort because I had to look through pages of clothes on their site to swap out what they had picked for items I would like better.
You have to pay extra for insurance. If you pay for insurance, you don’t have to worry about rips or spills on the clothing. But it’s a small extra charge for this. If you don’t pay for insurance, they will charge you if you rip an item or spill something on it and ruin it.
You may have issues cancelling your subscription. I have heard from a few people that they’ve had issues cancelling their subscription. I plan to cancel mine as soon as my two-month subscription is up and I’ll let you know if I have any issues.
